The CSRES Project: What's In It For Me and My Students?
Workshops conducted through the NASA-sponsored Climate Science Research for Educators and Students (CSRES) project will:
- Help you and your students develop a comprehensive understanding
of sun/Earth/atmosphere interactions (a core topic for climate science) using hands-on activities that
combine climate data with innovative and inexpensive instruments for ground-based measurements.
- Give you and your students an opportunity to build your own instruments for monitoring sun/Earth/atmosphere interactions.
- Help you and your students work together to develop research plans for conducting climate-related research.
- Give you and your students access to instrumentation that would not otherwise be available for student research.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and support for you and your students as they conduct their own climate research for science fairs or
other venues.
In summary, CSRES is a unique prograsm building an infrastructure for supporting student science investigations
that is not yet available
in the area of climate science. With this support, your students can engage in authentic climate-related research
that
will be competitive with projects in other areas of science that have traditionally had very high levels of
external support. Click HERE for a list of CSRES student projects.
The next CSRES workshop will be held June 27-29, 2013, at Queens College, Queens, NY. We maiy be able to provide some travel
support for teachers outside the New York City area. We may also be able to bring
these workshops to your school. For more information, contact Project Director
David Brooks.
